LD, Jenny & Dalton ENGAGED!!! It is with unbounded joy that we share in the announcement of the engagement of David Eaton Leininger to Jennifer Springs Perry. The two have been dating for some time and this new development has been anticipated (not to mention encouraged) by a wide range of friends and family. Jenny is a political science graduate of the College of Charleston and is a paralegal employed by a respected Columbia firm. She is the mother of a delightfully energetic seven-year-old, Dalton Michael Perry. Dave remains tied to the US Air Force. They originally planned a February wedding but, due to the unpredictable nature of military life, the schedule had to be accelerated to November 12 in Columbia. Dad is honored to officiate. Stay tuned!

Summer Travel is our big thing these days. The picture at the top of this page was taken on the campus of the Oakdale Presbyterian Church in Clover, SC, where we served from 1984-1988. The occasion was the congregation's annual Homecoming celebration held each year on the last Sunday in July. Earlier, we traveled to Liberty Hill, SC, our first congregation (1981-1984), for a brief visit and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The photos below are a "Then & Now" pair (you can click on each one for a larger version) - young David was one year old and standing on Momma's lap in the photo on the left; he is now 30 and would not dare stand on either one of his parents these days for fear of doing serious damage. We have also enjoyed a trip to Montreat and a delightful visit with our friends at First Presbyterian Church in Warren, PA (some of whom almost didn't recognize their significantly slimmed-down former pastor). Good times (but HOT!!!).

Young David has turned 30 as noted above, and sister Erin feted him with a surprise party in Charlotte. The photo below is one memory of the event. For lots more, go to Erin's Facebook page. Considering the announcement just made, it is only providential that this family photo should include the beautiful Jenny Perry for the first time. We anticipate her being a part of these things regularly as we go forward. Happy Birthday, David, and many more.

LD's 30th Birthday Party

David preaches again! He filled in (6/13) for our pastor, Neil Yongue, at St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist. His sermon was "The Forgiveness Business". Read Luke 7:36-8:3 in preparation. Click here to listen. Meanwhile, Christie is continuing work on hand bells and will provide special music for worship several times this summer. She is also continuing her Mission Committee work where her expertise in planning and implementing mission efforts is being put to good use in leading a work trip to Louisiana August 21-28.

Wedding Destination - No surprise, Hilton Head Island has become a most desirable site for folks to come from far and wide to solemnize their marriages. That being the case, our nuptial tourists occasionally need assistance in arranging for someone to officiate. Enter DAVID. Since we are now permanently on the island and with available time in retirement, this service has suddenly become a new focus of ministry. Several weddings are already on the calendar, and more will no doubt be coming. For details about the process, click here or on the "Weddings" button at left.

Rotary Wheel

David continues to enjoy Rotary on Hilton Head Island. He is a member of the Van Landingham Club that raises funds for a variety of charities, both local and international. Meanwhile, every Monday morning during the school year finds him at Hilton Head's International Baccalaureate Elementary School where he spends time with two youngsters as part of the Rotary Reader program.
